Certification
|
DB2 is gaining more and more popularity on the Unix/Windows platforms ...
IBM is promoting the product in every possible way, and one way is by creating more number of certified people to ensure that it stays popular among the programmers/admins ...
Hence thought will be a good idea to know what each one of us thinks about Certification ...

Not certified yet... but would like to be!
I think I still have a lot to learn though before I would feel confident enough to go take the test.

NOt certified yet, but making headways, into the wonderfull world of
certificates ,, right now I am playing with DB2 v7.2 AIX-Solaris-NT,
I wonder if experience with OS/390 is necessary to apply to some of the jobs I have been seeing latetly.
the question is :
If I get certified on DB2 (Unix,Windows) can I use those credentials and help me land on a mainframe kind of environment job?

db2 for OS/390
if you intend to get a mainframe job, i suggest you also study db2 for os/390. although most concepts spans most platforms, their implementation can significantly be different.
if you're new to mainframe, i suggest that while studying db2 for os/390, you also study MVS, JCL and VSAM concepts
mind you though... inspite all these, it won't guarantee employment
hth,
Oliver

Re: db2 for OS/390
Hi -
I am working on DB2 for OS/390 for last year or so as a application programmer.
Also I've passed the DB2 fundamentals exam (512), but this is for Windows, unix and OS/2. And now preparing for 513-DBA.
I just want to know, would these certifications benefit me any way ?
Thanx
Ashtyu

I'll say...
it depends on what benefits you expect. Check the poll result, some had personnally benefited from it and still some says it didn't help them in ANY way.
As for Exam 512 - this is NOT for Windows, Unix and OS/2 only. Your certificate will say "IBM Certified Specialist - DB2 UDB V6/V7 User"
Regards,
Oliver

Re: I'll say...
Though, not scientific, if you see the current status of this poll, you'll be able to see that most of the certified members have found the certification useful in improving their technical expertise ...
Good luck with your certification preparation and job hunt ...
Cheers
